What do skaters and dancers have in common? Their passion inevitably means falling and getting back up again. Street dancers also claim public space like skaters and use the obstacles they come across to demonstrate their personal style.
Karim Kalonji’s Stage Nomads is a new company that aims to give street dance a theatrical twist. For Manoeuvres, he is working with skaters, dancers and, above all, the exchange between the two: when do skate moves become dance? What can we learn from falling? Because that’s what we do all the time as people: we fall, shake up our cells and sinews, pick ourselves up and try again. Our shape changes significantly with every fall. We adapt and go on, again and again.
