Code Dans - Lens Dans Festival - Shortwaves Festival
By KWAM collective – GBR – 11 min
SOMA is an experimental short film employing movement and dance as its primary medium for story-telling.
Produced and choreographed by KWAM Collective, the film explores contemporary myth on the genesis of the human body. The piece oscillates between two distinct dimensions: an infinite black hole, in which bodies exist outside linear space and time; and a labyrinthine house, where a strange decadent gathering is taking place. As the free-associative, dreamlike narrative unfolds, different characters go through visceral bodily experiences of love, enchantment, pain and death. The film premiered in 2023 and has been selected at 40 international festivals and won 11 awards.

Fresh oranges into the ocean (11:30 MIN)
By Silvia Giordano – NLD, PRT, JPT & ITA – 11 min 30
While merging and intertwining with nature, three young girls create a metaphorical and visionary narrative of their present condition and their projections towards the future. Through their lightness, disorientation, vitality, and strength, they embark on a choreographic journey facing high and low tides, turbulence and contradictions, calm and turmoil. Guided by absurd questions the oranges reflect the path of the protagonists in their delicate passage to adulthood and guide us in a poetic reflection on our lives.

NEW MOVES FROM THE GLOBAL SOUTH
Curated by Ygor Gama in cooperation with Short Waves Festival.
This screening travels Brazil – Rwanda – Malaysia, celebrating south-to-south dialogues and perspectives. Mixing experimental cinema, performance, and video dance, the film works examine traces of colonial history in the present and question the Western perception of time and its representation in moving images. Unveiling the weight of a persistent history of oppression, the artists respond with a variety of gestures – from beating hair to hearing an old song or becoming trans-human. Rebellion and tenderness are both responses to a dystopian world.
