We’ve never been forced to stay at home for so long as in 2020. Cultural venues closed their doors, productions and rehearsals were cancelled and you could only dance in your living room. And that is precisely what the choreographer Laura Vanborm did: she went looking for the creative possibilities of her own home, while simultaneously living with two hectic small children.
She took dance photos and made videos where you don’t always know what is up or down. Is she dancing, hanging or floating in the air? She also didn’t let her face be seen in the pictures, just as stage performers couldn’t make eye contact with their audience during the lockdown. Despite this, Laura’s work demonstrated that, in difficult times, there is also beauty and power.
